Presario V5000 Audio Driver Download Install Update
I stopped the installation, though, because of an alert pop-up: I had received this same alert with the driver from the other company but I went ahead and tried to install it anyhow.
This time I thought I'd better not. Problem solved--sound is back. When I selected this one, all the grayed -out buttons became accessible and my sound came back. Your comments will potentially be very helpful to your peers in the future! All grey areas in sounds and audio device properties say no devic es, any more ideas? I downloaded the driver but it said thhere was no sound device installed.
I know it;s a while since you posted this but your solution didn't work for me - all grey areas in Sounds and Audio Devices properties remain grey and say no dound device installed. Message 1 of 6.
HP presario v5000 audio drivers
Here is the link to the Windows Vista 32 bit driver. Windows Vista drivers normally work on Windows 7 of there are no Windows 7 drivers available. There are two drivers so you may have to try them both. Microsoft and Conexant both said that HP should supply the drivers. By the way HP, the Conexant website says that they do not supply drivers even though they make the chipsets "at the request of the OEM's. It appears that this is a very common problem. Anyway, here is what you do:

You need Conexant drivers for this laptop, not RealTek. TrainableMan, Jan 6, OK, I don't recommend this for most people but I cannot find the right driver. What you might try is a product called DeviceDoctor. DeviceDoctor is not perfect and actually messed up my system so it took me 45min-hour to recover in safe mode. It worked for 2 drivers but then the third driver messed up my machine. One of the drivers that did work was Audio, so what I recommend is that you first create a Restore Point on your computer.
